How long is a college graduation?

My boyfriend's birthday is on Saturday and his best friend just called to invite him to his graduation (yes, 3 days notice) at NC State. This is completely ruining the plans I'd had for his birthday at 3:30. The graduation is an hour away and starts at 1:30. I say there is no WAY he will be able to do both but he is insisting he can. So my question is how long is the average college graduation?

1. like ummm 9 hours if all the kids gradurate
2. Set aside at least 2 hours for college graduation ceremony.
3. Probably an hour, but the traffic will tie you up much longer than that. I cannot see how you will do both on time. Even if you sit through the stand-up sit-down of all the different graduating groups, surely, he will want to locate his friend and congratulate him.
4. My college graduation only took like an hour. Add an hour drive and you're really pushing it. I'd say by 430 for sure
5. The average graduation... at a state school like NC State... yeah, no way he will be back in time. Have him tell his friend to work on his time management skills and be a little more courteous to people who have other plans lined up. And if your BF still goes... then party by yourself :). He doesn't need to be there for you to have fun... right?
