How many after school activities does your gradeschooler participate in?
My daughter is 10 and is in Girl Scouts every other week, tumbling once a week and piano once a week. Sometimes she takes weekly swim lessons but not right now. I just want to get an idea of what other kids' after school activities are. Thanks to everyone for your great answers. I was hoping to get a variety of responses and I did. Everyone was very helpful.

- Well my son is 10 and he participates in the after school activities at his school... He was playing football that had practice 3 times a week and games on saturdays... But the season is over now... At this age you want to keep them busy but not overwhelmed. A time where they are exploring the things like like....
- My daughter wore herself out with activities last year. She went to Scouts (Boy and Girl- she always came along to her brother's), Italian lessons, skiing in the winter, band and choir rehearsals, and acting. The acting was the real killer because the rehearsals would go until 10:00 or later several times a week. This year she's only doing Italian and maybe skiing. She might do a play in the spring though. Personally, I think that's too much, but she really wanted to do all of those things. I glad she's taking it easy this year.
- We are quite busy. With everything from Karate to Boy Scouts and Ballet to Horseback riding..
- My daughter is 9...she has an after school club on Mondays that lasts an hour. But in fall and spring...she plays travel soccer which is a two day a week practice for an hour and a half and we travel to other cities one day out of the weekend for several hours..sometimes it takes all day. As long as she is having fun and her grades aren't slipping all is good. We do like to give her a break during winter and summer, though so she doesn't get burned out, which she usually does by the end of the soccer season. Grades come first, of course.
- the only after school activity that my daughter does is gymnastics once a week
- My daughter is 7 and in 1st grade she is only in Girl Scouts
- My two do two a week - it seems to be enough and sometimes even too much, they are 6 and 5.
- I think that is reasonable. As long she WANTS to do those things, and she is keeping up in school. My 10 yr old son is alwasy busy with sports (2-4 times per wk). However, now that it's winter and gets dark so early, he can't play outside and is driving me nuts in the house! So indoor swimming might be a good one to add.
- My son is almost 8. He has children's choir practice on Wednesday evenings. On the weekends, he has riding lessons every other Saturday, and when taking them, swimming lessons Saturday and Sunday evenings. He also rides his pony on other days, and we have to set aside Tuesday evenings for his father to visit. He's done lots of other sports/activities in the past but I can only handle a few at a time since I work full time and am a single parent.
- My little sister is nearly six and does a load of avtivities because she has so much energy. On Tuesdays she does Girl Scouts, Wednesday is horseback riding, Thursday is gymnastics, Sat. morning is piano and Sat. evening is Little League. I don't know if I count- I'm 15- but here's what I do as well. I have cheer practise four times a week- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday then I cheer at the football & basketball games that are usually on a Friday night. On Wednesday I have softball. Saturday is horseback riding. Our whole family is really active and we can't sit still for too long lol, unless we're ill (like I am now). My older brothers were the same. They were complete All-Americans when they were at school (they're in their twenties now). They both played football, baseball, basketball and soccer.
